The Origins of the Berger Box
Nathan Layton founded Hershberger Heritage Farm in 2014 and it has been family owned and operated ever since.
The farm was born out of a desire to bring high-quality, sustainably raised meat and eggs to the local community, filling a vital need for fresh, organic products in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
Nathan's journey began on his grandfather Hershberger's 800-acre dairy farm in south-central Pennsylvania, where he developed a deep appreciation for farming. After spending eight years in the US Air Force, Nathan settled in Bucks County and quickly realized how challenging it was to find organic, pasture-raised meat and eggs. Inspired to solve this problem, Nathan embraced his passion for sustainable farming with the knowledge passed down through generations to create Hershberger Heritage Farm.

The Berger Box
From the outset, it became evident that a simple farm store and weekly farmers markets were not enough to reach all potential customers. This realization led to the creation of the Berger Box, our innovative solution for bringing our high-quality products to a broader audience.
We knew we had the best pasture-raised and grass-fed products around, but we needed a way to reach customers who couldn't attend farmers markets. After launching Berger Box, it became clear that delivery was the path forward. Berger Box has grown to the point where we can now ship our wonderful products all over the Northeastern United States!

Grassfed Beef

Pastured Pork
At Hershberger Heritage Farms, we raise Heritage breed hogs that yield tender, full-flavor meat. Our hogs are rotationally grazed on pasture, allowing them to enjoy a natural diet and environment. This method ensures the highest quality of life for our pigs while producing superior, flavorful pork. Rotational grazing promotes healthy, stress-free living conditions for the hogs, which translates to better meat quality. Pasture-raised Poultry
At Hershberger Heritage Farms, we raise our birds from day one on locally produced food rations and ensure they have constant access to fresh pasture. By moving open-air shelters daily throughout the summer, we provide our chickens with freshly-cut green grass, sunlight, and all the natural bugs they would typically forage. This method allows our birds to grow in a natural and healthy environment, resulting in superior quality, pasture-raised chicken.
Since pasture-raised chicken can only be produced in the summer in our area, we take full advantage of the season to deliver the freshest, most flavorful poultry.
Pasture-raised Eggs
At Hershberger Heritage Farms, we raise a variety of heritage laying hens, resulting in egg dozens that come in a delightful blend of colors and sizes. These eggs, with their rich, orange yolks, are highly sought after by chefs, bakers, and connoisseurs for their exceptional quality.
